Does anyone know of good backpacking/backcountry trips around Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead?
Got my new Osprey Packs Startos 36 the other day and picked up a SteriPEN water purifier, time to find a new place to explore.

Here’s a photo I took a few weeks ago while I was hiking in the Lake Tahoe area. I took this somewhere off the trail to Desolation Wilderness. It had just rained and snowed a bit and you can see the resulting rainbow that appeared. Lake Tahoe is the larger lake in the background and Cascade Lake is the closer one. I took this using a Nikon D5000 with a Nikkor 18-55 lens that had a circular polarizer attached.

This is a shot I’m reposting from my photography website www.steveslefteye.com, I took this while on a solo trip to Big Sur, CA back in November of 2007. If you follow my blog you’ll start to notice that I take a lot of random solo trips.

Hiking near Spooner Lake - May 1, 2012

Some dense forest area I was hiking through, it was a bit disorienting.
It seems like I always plan a random solo “driving” trip this time of year. Last year I drove all over the southwestern United States with stops in El Paso, Andrews, Austin, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Albuquerque, Holbrook, Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon. This year I’m going to keep things a bit more simple and just drive up to Tahoe and stay there for for 5 nights. I’m pretty excited since I’ve never been there and I’m looking forward to doing some real hiking. I’ll definitely bring my camera gear and possibly some of my fishing gear. Anyway, if anyone has suggestions, please let me know.
